Designing Color
Designing Tips for working with black & white tiles and lots of color?

We have just spent a lot of money refinishing our basement for our 6 children, ages 7-12. I would like to put the classic black & white checkerboard pattern on the floors and bring in LOTS of bright colors to make it feel less like a basement. Does anyone have any unique ideas of how best to bring color in and what colors – I don’t really want to just paint each wall a different color.

Try bringing in color by using fabric on your furniture, in throw pillows. You could try painting some of the furniture as well (ie storage chest or tables). Also consider using vibrant color paintings or pictures for the walls.

My all time fav way to introduce color into a room is through fresh flowers.

Also, check out TLC or HGTV (I watch both channels) for a recent show done with b/w tile and vibrant colors in the kitchen.

Have fun.
